The wedding photography is what is left when everything else has been packed up and put away. It's the pictures that will be looked at by generations to come. Photographs are the most tangible item you walk away with. Wedding photography is the best way to immortalize your special day. You only get one chance of capturing your wedding day, so it is wise to employ a professional wedding photographer for this important task. And your wedding album should compliment your wedding day with amazing images that tell your story.

The single most important thing for couples after their wedding is to see great wedding photographs that captured their wedding day. You will be devastated if they are not what you expected because you used a cheap and inferior photographer or simply did not do your research. Think about wedding photography in this context. How will you remember what the flowers looked like after they wilt, what will your lasting memories of the guests be on your wedding day, the amazing dress you wore for that one day and does the photography do the justice? Your marriage photography can understandably be all about money before the wedding, after the wedding, no amount of money can fix this or replace it. It becomes priceless. Also, the only person besides your new partner that you spend the most important and enjoyable days of your life is the wedding photographer. So, whatever your priority is, investing in a photographer should be at the top of your list. Besides love, it is the one thing that will last a lifetime.

Traditional Wedding Photography Vs. Candid Photography: (Modern Photography)

In the last few years, wedding photography has been revolutionized by the arrival of the DSLR. The end result, quality of photography in the wedding space has gone up. In all this, a new term has been coined, “The Candid Wedding Photography”.

Candid wedding photography involves taking pictures of people who are unaware that they are having their pictures taken. The photographer is always on an FLY – simply capturing the scene without actively altering the scene by giving direction to the people in the photo.

Traditional photography is the style of photography which we all have witnessed over the past few years, where you have photographers approaching you at regular intervals at a wedding asking “LOOK HERE, SMILE PLEASE.”

The difference between Candid Photographer Vs Traditional Photographer is based on following pointers

  1. A different approach to the same scene.
  2. Understanding the environment around you and adapting to it.
  3. Framing the same subject standing in the same place differently. The Art of Composition.
  4. How they both see light falling on the subject and how they plan to blend natural light with flashlights.
  5. Understanding the gear limits and then using it to get the best results out of the given scene.
  6. Understanding colours and what colour temperature to set your camera to shoot the scene.
  7. Post processing on images to achieve the look they are looking for.

Approach:

Candid Photography involves the taking of pictures of subjects that are simply unaware that their photos are being taken.

Traditional photography involves a more formal approach to the way the images of the subjects are taken.

Preparation:

Candid Photography brings a sense if natural spontaneity and realism to the composition of the image. The photographer moves around the wedding party and takes pictures of the events as they happen without any preparation at all.

Traditional Photography is just another “arrangement” and a cursory overview that allowed the parents to make an uncomplicated decision. It offers a more valid way of showing the photographer’s subjects in their best moments. One can have their makeup fixed, ties straightened, and stain from their teeth due to the sumptuous Indian banquet feast washed off prior to having their photos taken.

Conveying Emotions:

In Candid Photography by not knowing that a photograph is being taken, the subjects are able to convey true emotion without being conscious of the fact that they have to pose a certain way in order to satisfy conventional rules and more.

In Traditional Photography, it is a simple fact that the subject knows they are being photographed which gives them the opportunity to really show their best features and portray the desired emotions. However, not all are comfortable before the camera. So, it becomes difficult sometimes to shoot.

So, What’s Better?

In the context of an Indian wedding where a deep and rich culture is not only felt and seen but appreciated, certain parts of the wedding ceremony will benefit greatly with traditional photography while other more relaxed sections can do quite well with candid poses. It is the marriage of both old and new complementing one another as opposed to cancelling each other out. When the Indian wedding photographer inculcates both styles appropriately, the result is a glorious representation of a momentous and noteworthy event in the couple’s lives.

Which one should you choose?

Chose a team of photographers whose work you love. Never see only a few pictures on social media, rather meet them, ask them to share a complete wedding picture gallery.  If you love the frames they have captured, then select them otherwise look for alternatives. Certain functions like receptions mainly demand only group pictures hence traditional photographer is a must. If your family members prefer having loads of group pictures and you wish to have candid pictures, then hire a candid photographer who can also get a traditional photographer team, so that they can work in sync and cover the wedding. Never make a mistake of getting a different candid & Traditional team as most of the times they will end up fighting for space and you as a client will be in loss, as both the teams most of the time is just thinking of clicking pictures fast before other team comes or fighting for space, and not thinking enough on getting creatives shots.

While couples are making wedding day magic, photographers are behind the scenes capturing all of the memories they can relive for years and years to come. Wedding Photography is about picking up the unique moments through beautiful photos, you didn’t even know happened, seeing the excitement and emotion on the faces of your family and friends and above all, having a story that you shall take with you forever…
